History through local newspapers in Yorkshire & the Humber Region

What is Newsplan?

Newsplan is a co-operative programme involving public libraries, the universities and newspaper publishers, along with the active support of the British Library Newspaper Library.

Newsplan aims to make the political and neighbourhood history contained within the pages of the Yorkshire & Humber Region available to the public of today and tomorrow.

Newsplan does this by preserving, listing, and microfilming the historic runs of local newspapers held in the region and in the national library collection.  In doing this, librarians have found previously unknown titles held in private collections and these have been added to the programme.

The individual library authorities continue their work in co-operation with each other.  Their local studies representatives form a Committee that considers future plans in conjunction with a national Newsplan Panel.
